IWD is a global day celebrating the economic, political and social achievements of women in the past, present and future. </div><br /><div><br />UNIFEM Australia has been holding International Women’s Day functions since 1989. Over the years, these events have increased in size and number and are now attended each year by over 15,000 women, men, students and young people around Australia. </div><br /><div></div><br /><div>Each year, they raise funds via the sale of Purple Ribbons for a UNIFEM Project in a developing country. Wearing a Purple Ribbon is a symbol of your commitment to achieving Gender Equality. All the funds raised from International Women’s Day in 2010 will go towards a project to empower migrant workers in Indonesia.</div><br /><div></div><br /><div>Our 2010 production of Women of Manhattan will be directly supporting UNIFEM by holding a fundraising pre-season industry night on International Women's Day, March 8.
